The Internet is full of information, constantly taking on more and more, so finding credible content is vital to making valid points in your work. In evaluating a source, you will consider the credentials of the hosting website, author, authors purpose, any borrowed data, and the like. For this discussion question, locate an article on a magazine website of your choice. Be sure the author of the article also includes statistics from another source. Create four paragraphs, each dedicated to gauging the credibility of one of four aspects of the magazine piece: the hosting website, the author, the authors purpose, and one to two sources of borrowed information within the article. Use the questions below to help guide your assessment. Hosting website: What types of articles are typical of your chosen magazine? Does the magazine also issue print versions? Would the magazine be considered an academic, popular, or trade publication? Author: Does the author have credentials related to the articles subject? Is the author linked to any affiliated institutions? Has the author written other related works? Are those other works scholarly? Authors purpose: Does the authors writing appear biased? Is the author taking a personal stance or being objective? If bias exists, does it take away from the works credibility? Borrowed data: Who is the author of the borrowed data? Is he or she credible? Where was the borrowed material originally featured? Please use double-spacing, and include a standard header with your Name, Course, Assignment, and Date.
